The Birth Story

FAQS:

I took some of these from an earlier post when the boys were two months old and updated them and more - you can find that under the label FAQs if you so desire.

Q: Do twins run in your family?
A: They do not. We spontaneously conceived twins and we did not take any fertility drugs.

Q: How far along were you when you had them?
A: 34 weeks and 6 days. I was admitted in the hospital 3 days before that but they kept me in there as long as the babies would stay in.

Q: How did you deliver them?
A: It was a vaginal delivery. We always expected it to be a C-section because it is so common with twins, and they were never in the right position. Then in that 3 day hospital stay they were always in the right position so I'm guessing that is what triggered labor.

Q: Are they identical?
A: They are fraternal.

Q: Does that mean identical?
A: Nope. Non-identical. Normal fraternal brothers just conceived at the same time. Random people always assume they are identical because they are two babies right next to each other (and I think they just want them to be identical because it's so bizarre), but somehow a lot of people have to ask if they are twins, like it's not obvious.

Q: Are you going to have any more kids?
A: Dave wants way more kids and I want...fewer...most days. But yes, I will have another child one day! Kind of hoping for a female next time.

Q: Can you tell them apart?
A: Yes. They look completely different. I could tell them apart the moment I saw them.

Q: Do they sleep at night?
A: Yes and no. They usually sleep all night and have been for a long time, but since they are in actual beds now their bedtime is later because they are so damned rambunctious, and every few nights they just wake up and need help getting tucked back into bed. It's funny, when Dave and I finally get ready for bed I sometimes have to put both of their fully asleep bodies back into their beds, and they sleep soundly the rest of the night.

Q: Do you keep them on the same schedule?
A: YES. If I didn't I would be insane. When one is hungry they both eat. When one is ready for bed, they both go to bed. They get baths at the same time, they play together, they do almost everything together. I'm trying to give them more alone time these days so they can play or read whatever they want in peace and so that I can speak with them one on one and they can feel normal and heard.

Q: Do you get out much?
A: It was hard at first. The pediatrician didn't want them out of the house much for the first couple of months because they were premature, and I was pretty protective of them anyway. I was used to staying inside due to being massively pregnant during a hot, humid summer, so a good walk satisfied all of us. Now we are usually out of the house most of the day. They still take a good nap and we usually eat breakfast and dinner at home. We have a lot of fun finding new parks, zoos, aquariums, libraries. There's more and more fun things to do with your kids as they get older. As for Dave and I, it's easy to find someone to watch our kids so we can get out and we do. And we really enjoy it.
